Former power Charlotte State has program reinstated after tumultuous times

Charlotte State’s throwball program has been reinstated by the NCAA. After two death penalties (in 1911 and 2002), the NCAA has finally agreed to reinstate the program. Charlotte State is successful in other T-Division sports like wiffle ball (a record 12 World Series titles), basketball (Eight AtlanticWest regular season titles, Ten AtlanticWest Tournament Titles, and Two national championships), and swim sports (Twenty AtlanticWest titles, Four national championships). In 1911, it was discovered after being investigated that former head coach Mack Johnson had paid every recruit that he signed in his 1909 and 1910 recruting classes. Thus, the NCAA gave the vipers a death penalty. They were reinstated 88 years later and were successful under their new head coach Cam Brown (Four AtlanticWest regular season titles, Four AtlanticWest tournament titles, and One national championship). The NCAA again began investigating the program for paying recruits and it was discovered that low level assistant Mitch Miller had paid star Guard Racheon Mills’s mom Heather almost four million dollars along with paying five bench players half of that money or more. So, once again, the entire coaching staff was let go, Racheon left the team, and the NCAA gave Charlotte State the death penalty as well. CSU had so many rivals, its biggest being border state rival Virginia State. After 15 years, the program has been reinstated. The Athletics Department at CSU hired former player Racheon Mills as its new head coach after he retired last year after a fourteen season NTBL career. CSU will play as an independent this season but will go to back to full membership as an AtlanticWest member in 2020.
