()=pre-summer top twenty-five ranking
1.(8) Little Rock
Although they do enter a new conference,Little Rock, led by 2018-19 player of the year Allie Freeman (PG) (48.2 GPG,15.6 APG,11.2 SPG in 2018-19)should be a very good team again in 2019 after winning the national championship in 2018-19.Transfer wing Alex Freeman bolsters a wing group that already has rising Sophomore CJ Williams and Harris Bethel who is a three and d star as a rising Senior. Kathlon Robinson (PF) returns as the star of the big man group but rising Sophomore Reynoldson Williams who averaged twenty goals, twelve rebounds, and eight blocks during the Trojans’s NCAA Tournament run.Noel Richardson,a rising Sophomore big is a nice bench piece to have,as well.
2.(2) Texas
Texas has as much or more talent than their new conference foe,Little Rock.Jaylen Moore (rising Sophomore) at the guard position impacts the game more than anyone in the country.Ben Morgan complements Moore nicely, with a nice playmaking ability and great defensive ability.Ahmad Grace and Jude Hughes (both rising Juniors) are the starters of a loaded wing group.Reed Michael,Justin Trevor,Russell Martin, and Russ Calloway.Despite transfers from Ernie Powell and Hugh Sanders, all the ‘Horns really need is rising Junior starter Billy Wheeless (27.5 GPG,17.5 RPG,15.6 BPG in 2018-19) and rising Sophomore backup Jackson Allen (14.5 GPG,11.2 RPG,8.3 BPG off bench in 2018-19).
3.(20) Kansas
Kansas has one of if not the best player in the Big 12 in rising Junior Point Guard Damon Alexander. He has an amazing ball-handling ability and his defense and athletiscim are off the charts.Adding Texas transfer Center Ernie Powell should make things interesting.Aaron Grace out of San Antonio,Texas should be an immediate impact player as a three and d wing.Powell Mahomes, another incoming Freshman should make things interesting.Billy Murphy is an addition at Power Forward that Kansas has needed for a long time for their depth.OL Jackson will be the backup Point Guard for the aforementioned Alexander. The biggest addition to this team though is Iona transfer Forward Kelvin Sisa who led Iona to NCAA Tournament berths in both of his seasons in New York while averaging over thirty goals, fifteen rebounds, and ten blocks.
4.TCU
TCU landed the coach of their dreams in former Highland Park Offensive Coordinator Carter Justice.Justice’s first big move was landing Alabama transfer big Chrishaun Thomas. The next thing he did was land JUCO guard Kris Payne from Independence Community College, and another JUCO guard in Northern Arkansas CC’s Quest Wilson.KJ Hill a combo forward who complements the aforementioned Thomas and Center DJ Wise out of Alabama very well.Expect a much improved TCU team in 2019-2020.
5.Arkansas State
Another new member of the league,Arkansas State is always a surefire NCAA tournament hopeful. Will Richardson and Mor Johnson are excellent guards.Katon Reed is a defensive monster and is able to score at will. This should be a team that is very competetive in the Big 12 South.
6.(19) Denver
While Denver loses Jasper Holena, they return former five-star Point Guard Elliot Holena, and former five-star Power Forward Henry Akers. Many other players on this team were ranked highly out of high school as they look to take a shot at a Big 12 crown.
